Academics & Accreditation

Are FBA teachers certified?

First Baptist Academy is committed to providing quality instruction through qualified, dedicated educators who share our commitment to Christ-centered education. Teachers are selected based on their qualifications, experience, and ability to support our students academically and spiritually.

Is FBA accredited?

We are in the final stage of accreditation. First Baptist Academy will be accredited through the Alabama Christian Educators Association (ACEA). Our accreditation reflects our commitment to educational quality, continuous improvement, and Christian education.

What grades does FBA currently offer?

FBA currently serves students in Kindergarten through second grade, adding third grade in 2027. We plan to add one grade level each year, allowing our school to grow with our students and provide families with a continuing Christ-centered education experience. Scroll down to the “Enrollment & Financial Assistance” of this page for more information on future growth at FBA.

What makes FBA different from other schools?

FBA is an education ministry of First Baptist Church of Opelika. We partner with families to provide strong academics within a Biblical worldview. Our goal is to help students grow in knowledge, character, personal responsibility, and their understanding of God's truth.

What curriculum does FBA use?

FBA uses a structured, traditional approach to instruction that emphasizes foundational academic skills, including reading, writing, mathematics, and other core subjects. Instruction is taught through a Biblical worldview, helping students connect what they learn with God's truth. Abeka, Heggerty, and Comprehension Tool Kit are used as tools to enhance student learning.

Lunch & Daily Care

What are lunch options at FBA?

FBA works to make lunchtime a positive part of each student's day. Families can pack a lunch from home or order from our food vendors: Greens & Beans (M-Th) and Breezeway (F).

Is a school nurse available?

Student safety and well-being are important priorities at FBA. The school follows established procedures for responding to student illness, injury, and communicating with parents when needed. We do not currently employ a nurse, but as the school grows, that will change.

How does FBA handle student behavior & discipline?

FBA believes that discipline should be purposeful, consistent, and rooted in Biblical principles. We seek to help students develop self-control, respect for others, personal responsibility, and Christlike character. When behavior concerns arise, our goal is to correct inappropriate behavior, encourage better choices, and partner with parents when appropriate. Consequences are intended to support accountability and growth while maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. Our student handbook outlines all discipline procedures.

Student Support & Special Education

Does FBA provide special education services?

First Baptist Academy recognizes that students learn in different ways and that families may have questions about the support their child needs to succeed. We encourage parents to discuss their child's individual learning needs with the school during the admissions process. FBA will work with families to determine whether the student's needs can be appropriately supported within the school's available instructional resources and services. We do not offer Special Education Services. However, we will work with parents and students to provide accommodations as long we have the resources to do so. In some cases, it is in the best interest of a student to seek educational services elsewhere where their needs can sufficiently be met.

Does FBA offering tutoring or additional academic support?

Currently, we do not offer tutoring, but we do structure our classes to include opportunities for individuals and small groups to pull out for reading and math.

Enrollment & Financial Assistance

What are FBA's plans for future growth?

First Baptist Academy is growing intentionally, with the goal of expanding opportunities for more families seeking a Christ-centered education. We plan to add one grade level each year, building on our current Kindergarten through second-grade program. Our next planned addition is third grade for the 2027–2028 school year. This gradual approach allows us to grow our enrollment, staff, and programs while maintaining our commitment to academic and spiritual excellence. Our vision and prayer is to allow God to grow our Academy into a K-12 school.

Is FBA an approved Choose Act education service provider?

Yes, First Baptist Academy is an approved Alabama Choose Act Education Service Provider. We encourage families to explore available school-choice funding opportunities and contact the school office for information about eligibility, application timelines, and how funding may apply to their tuition.

How do I apply or learn more about enrollment?

We welcome families who are interested in learning more about First Baptist Academy. Early registration for returning families begins in December, with registration opening to the public in January. Families are encouraged to contact the school office to ask questions, learn about the admissions process, and explore the admissions process, and explore whether FBA is a good fit for their child.
